Bridges between Baroque water music, Arabic poetry, and between times and worlds.

The centrepiece of the new concert series at the Marktkirche is this finely cast orchestral concert with the CAFÉ INTERNATIONAL baroque orchestra, which has been led by Marktkantorin Anna Scholl for several years and is now performing at her new venue for the first time. The ensemble was founded by long-standing chamber music partners in cross-border joint music-making in order to revive the search for Baroque sounds and orchestral playing practice across four continents in the era of courtly and urban opera and oratorio tradition of the late 17th and early 18th centuries and to find new and experimental approaches to early music far removed from convention and consensus. The musicians from all over the world are united not only by a common musical language but also by a desire for lively international exchange. This orientation makes it predestined for the theme year of the Handel city of Halle, which is all about building bridges. The combination with recitations of (translated) Arabic poetry, in which water plays just as important a role as in the performed "water music", creates a truly universal bridge between cultures, art forms, centuries and living people.
